Focus on the positive

I still weigh myself, but immediately temper any negative emotional response by doing exactly what Nancy Clark says. I find its much easier to stick to my nutrition plan when I’m thinking positively about my “engine.”

Rather than starting each day by weighing yourself, how about starting it by smiling at yourself in the mirror and appreciating your body for all the wonderful things it does to help you live a fulfilling life?

I’m going to have to disagree with Nancy on this one. It’s fairly easy to keep track of weigth, fat %, water weight with the new scales such as the ones by Tanita. They’re even wireless and zap right into your computer. Set it up next to your computer at home.

As an athlete and fitness enthusiast it is important to track weight to get the most out of your workouts and recovery. You do a workout, step on the scale and it tells you have much %fat, %water you’ve lost. The rest is more than likely glycogen and protein. You’ll want to replenish the all with good nutrition.

As far as hormones go, a person should know their cycles and realize the effect it has on your body.

Another aspect I see with cyclist is the amount of money they will spend on a lightweight bike part. They’ll spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to drop their bike weight down 1 lb. Get fit first that’s more important.

My main point to take away for this is learn about yourself and enjoy yourself.

I’m with Marc. I’ve done both, although I use a cheap scale. If I use the scale I can hold my weight. If I use the mirror thing I gain 10 pounds before I admit anything has changed.

The scale keeps me honest.

Garmin has a nice set up with the 310xt and tanita scale http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/.
Chris, I have athletes tell me that they “feel” stronger. It’s good to be positive but you also need to be realistic. When you put a positive attitude and facts together that equals a winning combination. Keep on keeping “on”.
